Pole Trailer
A pole trailer is nothing but a trailer that is attached to the vehicle being towed via a telescoping or a sliding pole mechanism. This mechanism enables support of a common load present between the trailer and the vehicle being towed.
Features
A typical pole trailer will have a length of around 11.5 meters. However this length is when the drawbar is completely extended and is without the load. The maximum length is usually 20 meters. To most operators of pole trailers, the general expectation is that these trailers need to last a very long time. However, to be truly durable there are a few aspects that can really improve the general strength and robustness of the trailer. While the standard four wheels serve to provide great stability, the presence of a dual wheel mechanism prevents punctures and scuffing from happening. Another aspect that helps in imparting durability is the presence of an almost indestructible frame. The tongue of the trailer will also serve to determine its load capacity. Some tongues are estimated to support loads up to even 3800 pounds! The tongue in an ideal trailer should also typically slide over the rollers, to allow for easy adjustment of the length. The landing gear also needs to be able to handle any unexpected abuses or rough handling.
Design elements
A good quality pole trailer needs to possess the twin qualities of being narrow as well as short. This will enable easy navigation and maneuverability. The length of the trailer is also equally important. At times if the trailer length is not enough to support the poles being hauled, it can result in what is known as ‘fish tailing’. That’s why an ideal tongue weight is crucial to ensure safety and efficiency. A consultation with a reputed trailer manufacturer will enable you to get the best designed trailer.
